Will Be Featured In Motortown Revue Showcase
Sebastian Kole, who has co-written No. 1 songs for Alessia Cara and Jennifer Lopez, steps out front with his self-titled debut EP, set for release on May 13 by EP Entertainment/Motown Records. See below for track listing. The EP features five songs written, performed and produced by Kole, including “Home,” “Love’s on the Way” and “Love Doctor,” which have been featured in recent episodes of “Grey’s Anatomy” and are available now on iTunes.
Kole will be featured in the Motortown Revue showcase this spring with special guest Berry Gordy.
Born in Birmingham, AL, Kole began playing music in church, where he was given the freedom to fuse songs he heard on the radio with traditional hymns during services. In addition to honing his vocal ability, he learned piano, guitar, drums and tuba. His first big break came when Jennifer Lopez recorded “Goin’ In,” a track that he co-wrote. The song, which featured Flo Rida and hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart, appeared on both her 2012 greatest hits collection and the Step Up Revolution soundtrack. Shortly thereafter, Kole moved to Los Angeles and signed with EP Entertainment and Motown.
Kole co-wrote and co-produced most of the songs on Alessia Cara’s Four Pink Walls EP and her debut album, Know-It-All, including the double Platinum hit “Here.” He is currently writing for Maroon 5 and Demi Lovato. As Kole recently explained to VIBE, he feels a different kind of pressure when he’s writing for himself. “When the songwriter sits down and writes a song [for himself], it better be really good,” he said. “With my own personal project I didn’t lyrically over do it, but I really tried to say something. When people hear it, I wanted them to hear that I really care about things.”
The honest emotion of his songs combined with Kole’s rich, soulful voice create a sound that is uniquely his own. He calls it “Southern Urban Pop” a.k.a. “SOUP for the soul” and it’s a timeless sound. Vulture.com praised “Love’s on the Way” as “a roaring soul-pop tribute, calling out the everyday violence experienced by people near and far…it’s glorious and sad and something that needs listening to.”
